St. Robert, Missouri

St. Robert is a very small town of about 2,000 people that sits right outside of Ft. Leonard Wood Army Base. My family and I came here to see my son's graduation from Army Basic Training. From the minute we stepped off the plane in St. Louis on Monday until Wednesday evening it didn't stop raining once. It turns out that we came right in the middle of the worst flood in years. By the time the graduation happened on Thursday the weather was sunny again and it hasn't rained since.

We were hoping that my son would get a pass so we could go to a more populated area for Easter weekend but that turned out not to be the case. The Army seems to be a little reluctant to let their new members wander any further than 30 miles from the base at any given time. We are about 80 miles from anything interesting, which would be Springfield Missouri. There is very little to do in St. Robert and we have been to just about every decent restaurant in the area. We are trying to make the best of the situation but there is really nothing to do around this area except bowling, which we have done twice now.

It was great to see my son and that he is happy in what he is doing so that made the trip worthwhile. We will head back to St. Louis on Easter Sunday and then head back to California on Monday. Hopefully all of the airport delays, from the flooding, will have subsided by then.
