High Desert Weekend

The weather in the Antelope Valley this weekend was perfect. With a high temperature of about 68 Degrees Fahrenheit, blue skies and no wind for a change. We normally have a lot of wind here so you have to ride your bike early in the morning in most cases. Today I found a new place to ride along the California Aqueduct. I didn't have my GPS with me but it felt like I rode about 20 miles today. The nice part about the Aqueduct path is that it is very level and very peaceful because there is no motor traffic allowed. According to the sign at the entrance, there is also no bikes allowed. Right next to the sign that says "No Bikes", is a gate designed to let bikes through. I saw many other people on bikes as well. I guess the sign says no bikes so if you were to fall into the Aqueduct, you couldn't sue the city or anything.

The entrance I use is off of 70th Street West in Palmdale. Only a few other cars were there and they were mostly fisherman. My new Rec-Rac Bike Rack is working out great in the back of my Ranger Pickup. I can even lock my bike to the rack so I could go into a store or something.

There are a lot of ducks in the water along this ride and also a lot of Ravens on the grounds around the water. I also came across a Stinkbug, or Pinacate Beetle along the way. I think I will go the other direction next time because I think it goes a lot further and is further from neighborhoods.

One weird thing I thought, was when I got to the end of the path and stopped to rest, I noticed that the ground was covered in these small white clam shells. I'm not sure where these come from being so far from any other bodies of water.
